Alphabet & letter sounds

Alphabet and letter sounds, with every picture named

If a child calls the iguana a lizard, a beginning-sound page is wrong. So every picture in these sets carries its name on the page, and a reference table at the back lists all of them — which is also what makes the answer key trustworthy.

Formation cues come from a verb dictionary, not from guesswork

Each letter page prints the same instruction a teacher would say aloud — where to start, which direction to travel, where to stop — drawn from a fixed set of formation verbs rather than reinvented per letter, so the language stays identical from A to Z.

Sound sorts are ordered by how the mouth makes the sound

The thirteen contrasting pairs move from sounds that are easy to feel apart to sounds that are close, and the two columns are never the same length — so a child cannot finish by counting instead of listening.

Questions teachers ask about these

Are the pictures photographs or drawings?

They are real-life style pictures prepared to sit cleanly on white paper, each printed with its name so there is no ambiguity about the sound it starts with.

Do the posters match the worksheets?

Yes — the same picture words and the same formation language run across the poster, worksheet and sort sets, so a wall chart and a page never disagree.

Is there a version for a child who is already reading?

For children past letter sounds, start at CVC words and short vowels instead.
